About Hbg Shopping
It All Started With Edna's Lightbulb
Miss Edna, our 94 years young homebound neighbor, needed a new lightbulb for her studio apartment. After her husband Harold passed, she rarely came outside. She couldn’t get to the store, and one night she knocked on our door and asked us for help. She didn't want to "trouble" us and for over a week she'd been living in darkness. We purchased a bulb from a local store and installed it for her immediately. We didn’t set out to start a movement.
We just didn’t want our neighbor left in the dark.
Now, for the past few years, we’ve quietly run a word-of-mouth, volunteer-powered delivery network—delivering to hundreds of homebound neighbors in the Harrisburg, PA area with essentials like groceries, prescriptions, and even that one lightbulb.

All delivery drivers must pass a background check by the Pennsylvania State police.
One common theme running through our volunteer jobs?
A whatever-it-takes sense of pride in getting the work done at a time when so many others can’t.
We don't close down. We deliver.
Our volunteer drivers? They're just good people—volunteers who give their time freely. You might recognize them: they’re the same folks who deliver your grandmother’s prescriptions every week or your granddad’s new slippers. Many are church members, students, or full-time workers—some pulling 12-hour shifts. They do this not for a paycheck, but because they care. Our delivery drivers are the lifeline for our homebound neighbors.
Volunteer with us here!
Please note: Our drivers do not carry cash, and Cash on Delivery is not available.

What is Artisan Status, and How Can I Achieve It?
Artisan status on Harrisburg Shopping is a prestigious recognition awarded to vendors who demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dedication to producing high-quality, handmade goods. Achieving Artisan status signifies not only superior skill but also a commitment to traditional techniques and meticulous work. This status distinguishes your products as authentic, valuable, and crafted with care.To earn Artisan status, vendors must maintain a minimum 4.0-star rating based on verified customer reviews and product evaluations. Additionally, a group of silent shoppers assesses products over time by purchasing and/or visiting the vendor’s store to ensure they meet the high standards of artistry and quality.
Continuous positive reviews from verified customers and consistent craftsmanship are key to earning and maintaining Artisan status and cannot be purchased through paid promotions.
Harrisburg Shopping is a nonprofit, community-run online mall where the people of Harrisburg — customers, vendors, and volunteers — vote on how it works. It’s not owned by any company or founder. Instead, it’s legally structured so the community makes the decisions, and a charitable trust makes sure those decisions are carried out and the platform can never be sold or privatized.
In 2025, Google called Harrisburg Shopping a “global first” because it’s the only shopping mall in the world run this way — like a public utility, but for online shopping.
