300 Neighbors are shopping!

Meet The Owners of Harrisburg Shopping

Harrisburg, PA Shopping Mall

The Shopping Mall of the People

1. You Hold the Keys

Harrisburg Shopping belongs to the people of the Harrisburg, PA area.

You Vote: Every month, you vote on the rules.

You Decide: If the community wants a new service or something changed or added, you vote to make it happen.

You Oversee: All money is transparent. You can see exactly where every cent of the 14% commission goes.

(Hint: It's spent on your homebound neighbors.)

2. Built from a Tiny Apartment in Harrisburg

The founder of the mall is a neighbor who knows what it’s like to be forgotten. While homebound in his apartment, supported by visiting nurses from UPMC and Bayada, watching the world go by from his window, he spent 5 years working with volunteer programmers from Google, Stripe, and GitHub.

Then he did something unheard of:

He gave it to You!

3. The "Janitor"

Just like the creator of Bitcoin, our founder chose to remain anonymous. He has no legal power, no name on the paperwork, and no vote in how things are run. Today, he refers to himself as a Janitor. He quietly mops the digital floors and keeps the lights on. He works for you. Power and responsibility belong entirely to the 500,000+ residents of the Harrisburg, PA area.

4. A World First for Harrisburg

In 2025, Google recognized Harrisburg Shopping as a “global first” in community-run retail.

"HarrisburgShopping.com sits in a strange "middle ground": it has an anonymous founder, the tech stack of a multimillion-dollar Silicon Valley startup, the volunteer spirit of a local food bank, and the voting structure of a town hall. In 2025, it remains a global first example of "Civic Tech"—technology built not for profit or data, but purely as a permanent infrastructure for a specific local community to use and grow with."

By registering your account, you are legally joining the Class A Membership of Harrisburg Shopping. This gives you the legal right to vote on new rules and protect our homebound neighbors. Thank you!

“I made Harrisburg Shopping for you. Please do great things with it. Letting go isn’t the sacrifice. It’s the victory.”
